Science Project Abstract

Abstract
My teacher recently read that a young Israeli boy had went to the Red Sea with his father. While the boy was in the water the father had drifted off to sleep and woke up noticing that his son was nowhere in sight. He called the police and they searched the beech up and down along with coast guard and they did not find him. About an hour later a helicopter found the boy floating 3 miles out from the shore. The reason the boy floated so far out to sea because the Red Sea is the saltiest ocean in the world. The water was so salty that the current wasn’t bringing the boy under it was just carrying the boy out farther and farther.

After hearing about that from my teacher it made me want to try to see if this same thing could happen with an egg. I figured that the egg could be somewhat like the human body with its yolk inside like blood in a human and it’s shell like human skin. So I decided to test the egg to float in water like the little Israeli boy in the Red Sea.

Science Project Experiment

Question: What type of environment can an egg float in?
Hypothesis: The egg will float in only in hot salt water and the hot contaminated water (cooking oil).
Materials: 3 Uncooked Eggs
3 Paper cups
2 Tablespoons
Salt
Cooking Oil
Cold and Hot water
Procedure: 1. Pour cold water into the 3 cups.
2. Add a tablespoon of salt to cup 2 and a tablespoon of cooking oil into cup 3.
3. Put one egg and each cup and watch the eggs or 5 minutes to see if they float.
4. Record data.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 with hot water.
Data:
Regular Water Contaminated Water Salt Water
Cold Water Egg did not float Egg did not float Egg did not float
Hot Water Egg did not float Egg did not float Egg Floated

Results: Only the egg in the hot slat water floated. All of the other eggs sank straight to the bottom.

Conclusion: The hypothesis was partially correct because the only the egg in hot salt water floated but the egg in hot contaminated water did not. The topic of the experiment relates to the results because the results shows just what type of environment an egg could or could not float in. An egg is like a human body with the liquid inside of it and the protective outside. Like I stated in my abstract paragraph with the little Israeli boy when there is a lot of slat in the mixture of the water it can cause you to float for a very long time. The hot water melted the salt into the mixture of the water while the salt in the cold water had just sunk to the bottom. Possible sources of error could be the temperature of the water. Also the cooking oil or salt in certain environments could have affected the results of the experiment.

Religion In Schools

My personal opinion on religion in schools is that religion can be talked about to a certain extent. When you start trying to impose your religion on other people it goes against the law. The first amendment states that no one should try to establish a religion. So no one should tell anyone that his or her religion is the right religion. Everyone has a freedom of religion.

There are to many religions in this world for someone to think one religion is right. I believe that many religions are nothing but a bunch of folk tales because no one really knows where these stories about their religious leaders came from. All they know is that they have a book telling the story of their religion.

A court case that is a great example to prove that religion should not be taught in schools is the Kilmitzer v. Dover School Board. It was a case that was fought to prove that religion is not science and should not be used in public schools because it goes against the constitution.

NHD Topic Essay

American Studies Mr. Ackerman

Topic Choice Essay

The topic I chose for NHD attracts national attention every time the topic is brought up with complications. My topic is Intelligent Design v. Evolution. Many people have their opinion on the topic and many of their opinions are in favor of ID because most of America’s population is Christian. That is one of the main reasons that this topic is so debatable and attracts so much attention. I believe this topic would catch the judges” attention at NHD and that’s the reason why I choose ID v. Evolution for my project.

Another case is the John Scopes Monkey Trial where it was outlawed to teach Intelligent Design in public schools.
